Writer's Block

Everyone has had writer's block as least once in their lives. Whether it was over a school assignment that had you staring at a blank page for what felt like an eternity, or for some aspect of your job, writer's block can affect anyone.
For me, I've found writer's block to be especially annoying. I get to a certain point in drafting out a story, and then bam, I hit a brick wall. I know where the story will end up, but I have to get past this obstacle. There are some techniques that I use to combat this, and I thought that I would share.
The first thing that I do is step away from what I'm writing for a while to give myself a break. Take my mind off of the issue and reset. I find that works about 70 % of the time. If that doesn't work, then I begin to write out something else. Whether it be a scene for another book or story, or maybe just a silly thought that came into my head, it doesn't matter. It gets the juices flowing again, and I find that I can go back to the original task at hand and finish what I started.
I realize that most people that read this blog won't be writing professionally, and that's ok. I merely wanted to share what I do when I encounter writer's block in the hopes that it can help someone else out there.
