The Importance of Reviews

We've all at least once in our lives been asked to review some product or service before. Whether that be in a survey, a simple stars rating, or a comment section on what you thought of the product. Sometimes you do it, and other times you don't. Well, when it comes to books, I have quickly realized that the majority of the sales you make are because of reviews.
I like many I'm sure, feel very pushy asking for people to review my book, but it does really matter to me. It has been proven that the more reviews there are, the more sales that an author sees. The issue is, if you give out a bunch of books to people, 50% will review them. That's not very good odds. Seeing that this was the first book that I'd ever done, I had no idea that was an issue. All the research I did was lacking that vital information. So, here I am, with a low in sales of the Return of Sinestra, and as I checked while writing this post, only two reviews. A total of two.
Writing books is always a learning curve, and mistakes will be made when you are starting to do it. I understand that, and I am learning from each and every mistake that I make. But the reviews are the main thing that I am learning from.
Honest reviews from customers are the main driving force, and I didn't respect that nearly enough when I first went into the Return of Sinestra. Being a self published author, I never imagined that I would need to actually pursue people to go and leave reviews, I had assumed (which is a terrible thing to do) that people would just do it automatically. But the reviews are a key leg in the book's marketing plan, so that is going to be implemented in the future books of the Saga. That being said, I am a author, not a marketing expert. I'm still learning.
