Mythology Inspirations

Magical creatures are a building block for Lily's magical world, and provide depth to her universe. Throughout the Lily Black Saga there are numerous magical creatures that make their appearances. I thought that I would share a bit where I got inspiration for them, and bring them into Lily's magical world.

Now, there are the typical creatures that always seem to make an appearance in magical books and series such as werewolves, vampires, dragons, and ghosts. They seemingly are everywhere when magical stories are mentioned, or at the very least make an appearance at some point or another within the story. But there's others that come into play in the Saga from specific cultures.

Since Lily is in the USA, there are native american creatures that are mentioned as well like wendigo and baykok. As Lily is learning about the entirety of the magical world, she covers all of the various areas and species that she may run into in her life and travels. But reading further, you'll see that there are other creatures that come into play such as Greek mythological creatures like gorgons, sirens, and pegasus.

With so many different creatures that already exist, I thought it would be interesting to incorporate them into the world instead of making up a myriad of new creatures. Doing research on all the creatures that exist actually has made it difficult for me to narrow down on which ones to include, which is a bit of a good thing. It's better to have a surplus of material rather than a deficit when you're creating anything.
