**Author's Note: This blog post will cover mostly common sense items pertaining to legal age limits, however I felt the need to state them here for the official record.
As with all societies, there is a legal age within Lily's magical world. Unlike with how the Non Magical society has their various different legal ages for specific things and in different countries, in the Magical community, there is only one set legal age globally: 18 years old.
The legal age covers a variety of things including drinking alcohol, magical court cases and to marry. (However, arranged marriages are still permitted among families with both parents consenting - there will be a separate blog post covering that.) With the legal age also come certain legal doctrines that change as well. If a crime is committed under the age of 18, the parents will be held accountable for the child's actions. Most of these come as fines, or house arrest. Once they turn 18, the child can and will be charged with the crimes they commit. Several eighteen year olds have been sentenced to Xurban and Mexban Prisons in the long history of the magical world to set an example.
Also with turning 18, the limit on how many credits they can pull out of their bank vaults is lifted. Under 18, they are limited to a thousand credits a week that they could withdraw. After they pass the legal age, there are no such limitations, provided that there are sufficient funds within their vaults. Along with that comes estates that are left to children.
If a child is so unfortunate enough to lose one or both parents before they are 18, then upon their 18th birthday, they are given access to all of the estate of their parents. However, there are work arounds to this particular law such as one of the parents leaving explicit instructions in their will to have the child receive certain parts of their estate upon their death. This is permitted for credits, and select belongings. Only property and Manors are held back until the child reaches the age of 18, where they can take over any wards that are still in place.
