The grading scale for Gerhardt's classes varies from the other magical schools in the world, and hasn't been talked about a lot in the Lily Black Saga thus far. It won't really be discussed in great detail until book three, but I thought that I would give you some information about it before then since I am sure that you are curious. The scale for grading is as follows:
E = Exceeds
P = Perfect
M = Meets
BA = Below Average
S = Struggling
F = Fail
Most students fall into the first three categories in all of their grades for their classes, but the last three do occasionally make a rare appearance. Any class that a student has an F as the overall grade is a mandatory repeat of that class the following year, or an intense version of that class over the summer of the same material. Most often, the staff of Gerhardt don't offer the summer option, since it is more challenging than the regular school year and they want their students to succeed with the best possible odds.
An overall class grade of a BA or an S will allow the student to pass that year, however to graduate, each class must be a minimum of a BA. If a student does have a class that is an S, then the staff will give several options to have the student raise that grade in order to graduate. Each student has a customized suggestion plan to help them achieve their graduation goal. Gerhardt does have more E and P grades for students than the other schools of the world combined giving Gerhardt a high class reputation. In the last two hundred years there has been a total of 23 BA grades, 4 S grades and zero F grades. This is a source of pride that the staff of Gerhardt have with their students.
The record of the most E grades ever achieved has been 18, consisting of every single class that existed at Gerhardt at that time. That accomplishment earned a brand new award that was given to that graduating student, and no other student has come close to that record since it was first accomplished in 1993.
