Charms

Another core class at Gerhardt, charms was decided by the founders to be one of the original five with PADMA, transfiguration, potions, and beast training, which later was eliminated and replaced with care of beasts and creatures. Charms has become an integral aspect of wizarding life for the sheer variety of usefulness that they possess within everyday life. From cleaning spells for around the house, to packing charms to save time for vacations and school ventures, to dueling charms to assist in unconventional combat, they are very wide-ranging.

Professor Bloodstone has this to say about his charms class at Gerhardt to his first years:

"This class will be vital to your everyday lives as witches and wizards for the rest of your life and is a core class. I'll be teaching you this year the basic and most common charms that will be the foundation for all charms in the following years. So it's best that you all pay close attention in my class for your own benefit."

Charms is considered the easiest of the magical spells to learn, as they don't require a lot of talent, or skill to perform. However, given its easy nature to perform, it misguides learners into not studying it as much as they should. As a result, charms class is a core class in all the magic schools as they are one of the pillars of magic.

Despite being a core class, good scores in charms isn't required for many jobs within the magical world. The main jobs that require high ranking scores in charms include certain jobs within the Magical Congress, magical zoologists, chefs, and investigative journalists. The three most recent principals of Kastrol School of Witchcraft have all been charms teachers in the past, which is an interesting coincidence since most charms teachers don't wish to take higher positions within the school, instead favoring on teaching the students that come in year after year.

Within charms class, from third year onwards, most of the material is learned through the textbooks instead of lectures as there is a greater amount that the students must learn, and if they were to get them only through lecture it would be impossible for them to learn them all. Professor Bloodstone however does more lecturing on specific charms in later years than the teachers at the other magic schools due to the fact that he has mastered the art of charm work, having created a new charm himself. However, even having a master at charms be teaching students doesn't mean that it is a class that is graded easily. The magical world takes its education very seriously.
